The 80th Independence Day of India at the Assam Don Bosco University, Tapesia Garden was celebrated with great patriotic spirit and enthusiasm, bringing together the community to honour the nation’s freedom and remember the sacrifices of the freedom fighters.
The programme began with the hoisting of the National Flag by the Chief Guest, Dr Jose Palely, SDB, Vice Chancellor ADBU followed by the singing of the National Anthem. The flag-hoisting ceremony set a solemn and patriotic tone, reminding everyone of the struggles and sacrifices that secured the nation’s freedom.
The celebration continued with a variety of cultural performances, including group dances, group songs and a patriotic song. The performances reflected the participants’ love for the country and added colour and enthusiasm to the occasion.
Fr Zacharias George delivered the Independence Day message, highlighting the significance of freedom, unity and patriotism, while reminding everyone of their responsibilities as citizens towards the nation. Miss Lillian Iadalalin further enriched the programme with a meaningful speech on the importance of Independence Day and the need to cherish the values of freedom and national unity.
The programme concluded with a prayer for the nation led by Sister Depali, seeking God’s blessings for peace, unity, prosperity and the well-being of the country and its people. The celebration came to an end with light refreshments shared among those present, marking a meaningful conclusion to the 80th Independence Day celebration.
