The community of Bosco Mount, Rongkhon, celebrated India’s 80th Independence Day on 15 August 2026 with patriotic fervour and spiritual devotion, coinciding with the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The celebration began with the Holy Eucharist, during which prayers were offered for the nation, its people and the well-being of all gathered. Following the Eucharistic celebration, the National Flag was hoisted at the Basketball Court by the Chief Guest, Sr Albina MCJ, Superior of St Xavier’s School, Tura.
In her inspiring address, Sr Albina encouraged the young people to dream big and work towards achieving their goals. She also recalled the sacrifices of India’s freedom fighters and urged everyone to value the freedom they have inherited.
Rev Fr Benjamin Daimary, Rector of Bosco Mount, welcomed the Chief Guest and the gathering and expressed the community’s joy in commemorating the significant national occasion.
The aspirants presented enthusiastic patriotic performances, creating a lively atmosphere and reflecting their love for the nation. The celebration continued with organised sports matches, providing an opportunity for recreation, teamwork and fellowship.
The day concluded with a vibrant cultural programme at the Bosco Mount Auditorium. The programme brought together the boys and girls of Rongkhon Hostel, along with the Fathers and Sisters, in a spirit of joy, unity and fraternity.
