Rev Fr Januarius S. Sangma SDB, the main celebrant along with Rev Fr Jayaprakash Anthonimuttu SDB, Economer and other priests at the Inauguration of the new church at Mongchong Village under Shallang Parish on Sunday 31 August 2025.
The Catholic community of Mongchong Village rejoiced and gave thanks to God on Sunday August 31, 2025, as the newly built Church dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus was solemnly blessed and inaugurated.
The blessing of the church was led by Rev. Fr. Januarius S. Sangma SDB, former Provincial and Principal of Don Bosco College, Tura. The inauguration ceremony was carried out by Rev. Fr. Jayaprakash Anthonimuttu SDB, Economer of the Province, with the cutting of the ribbon.
The occasion was graced by the presence of Rev. Fr. Denis Tuju Sangma SDB, former Parish Priest of Shallang, Rev. Fr. Marcus Lakra SDB, Parish Priest, along with several other priests, religious sisters, and a large gathering of the faithful who came together to celebrate this moment of grace.
In his message, Fr. Markus Lakra SDB, Parish Priest, expressed heartfelt gratitude to God for showering His blessings upon the village with a new place of worship. He extended appreciation to Fr. Januarius Sangma and Fr. Jayaprakash Anthonimuttu for their presence, and thanked all the priests, religious, and faithful who supported and contributed towards the realization of the chapel.
The solemn Holy Mass was followed by a felicitation programme, marking the occasion as a joyful expression of thanksgiving to God for the gift of the new church.
