The Higher Education Commission of the Salesian Province of Mary Help of Christians convened its meeting on Monday, March 30, 2026, at the Don Bosco Provincial House. The meeting was organized by Rev. Fr Abhilash Vadakekara, SDB, the Commission Head, along with the members of the commission.

Rev. Fr Sebastian Kuricheal, SDB, Provincial, welcomed the members, expressing his appreciation for those who had travelled long distances to participate in the meeting. His words set a tone of unity and commitment to the shared mission of advancing higher education in the province.

In his address, Rev. Fr Abhilash Vadakekara thanked the Provincial and the Vice Provincial for their presence and guidance. He also acknowledged the valuable contribution of Rev. Fr Jose Palely, SDB, Vice Chancellor of Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU), for his presence and insightful sharing. Adding depth to the discussions, three faculty members from ADBU shared their expertise on key areas such as Service Learning, Learning Management Systems (LMS), and Skill Enhancement Training.

Significant discussions were held on the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, particularly focusing on the clustering of colleges and its implications for individual institutions. Members actively engaged in clarifications and deliberations aimed at aligning institutional practices with national educational directives.

The Commission arrived at four key resolutions to be pursued in the coming months: the organization of Faculty Development Programmes (FDP), the promotion of Service Learning, the formulation of common service rules, and the training of staff in Salesian Pedagogy.

The meeting also reviewed the current status of institutions, explored ways to strengthen academic quality, discussed student skill development initiatives in collaboration with ADBU, and considered plans for research, infrastructure improvement, and province-level collaboration .

In his concluding remarks, Fr Sebastian Kuricheal expressed his appreciation for the dedication and vision of the commission members. He encouraged them to continue forging ahead with renewed zeal, emphasizing their vital role in serving the young across the province’s institutions.

The meeting concluded with a prayer led by Rev. Fr Jogesh B. Sangma, SDB, marking the end of a fruitful and forward-looking gathering.
