The National Level General Plenary Assembly of the Conference of Religious in India (CRI) 2026 of the Priests’ Section was solemnly inaugurated on 03 February 2026 at Don Bosco Institute, Kharghuli, Guwahati. The two-day assembly, which will conclude on 04 February 2026, has brought together Generals, Provincials, and Superiors of various religious congregations from across the country.

The inauguration marked an important moment of reflection, dialogue, and collective discernment for religious life in India. The presence of senior leaders of different congregations highlighted the spirit of unity and collaboration that characterizes the Conference of Religious in India.

Rev. Archbishop Emeritus Thomas Menamparampil, SDB, D.D. of Guwahati, delivered a thought-provoking address to the assembly. In his talk, he reflected on the rights of religious in India and elaborated on the challenges and emerging opportunities faced by religious congregations in the present socio-cultural context. His insights invited the participants to remain rooted in their consecrated vocation while responding creatively and courageously to contemporary realities.

Rev. Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal, SDB, Provincial, represented the Province at this national-level meeting, joining other major superiors in discussions aimed at strengthening the mission and witness of religious life in the country.

The Conference of Religious in India represents over 1,15,000 religious men and women across India. It serves as a vital platform for fostering unity, collaboration, and mutual support among the major superiors of Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life. CRI facilitates the sharing of experiences, addresses common challenges, and supports each institute in carrying out its mission while respecting its autonomy. It also promotes cooperation with Episcopal bodies and nurtures fellowship within the wider Christian community and with all people of goodwill.
