The confreres of the Garo Hills Region of the Province, on 05 November 2026 gathered at Bosco Mount, Rongkhon, for a solemn celebration of the Holy Eucharist to remember and pray for the deceased Salesian confreres laid to rest at the Omega Point cemetery.

The Holy Mass was presided over by Rev. Fr Januarius S. Sangma, SDB, Rector and Principal of Don Bosco Centre for Learning (DBCL), Tura. A good number of confreres from the Tura Region joined in the celebration. Students and brothers from DBCL, the Boys’ Home and the aspirants of Bosco Mount participated devoutly in the Holy Mass.

In his homily, Fr Januarius reflected on the common qualities that marked the lives and missionary commitment of the deceased confreres. Drawing inspiration from Don Bosco’s famous motto, “Da mihi animas, cetera tolle” (Give me souls, take away the rest), he highlighted three defining characteristics of their Salesian lives: their love for souls, their love for Christ in the Eucharist, and their love for the people.

He recalled how these missionaries travelled far and wide in search of souls, learned local languages and identified themselves closely with the people they served. Their missionary journey was marked by numerous challenges and hardships. Unlike the present generation, they had limited resources and facilities, yet they remained optimistic, committed and faithful to their mission.

Fr Januarius emphasized that their lives were a living testimony to the Salesian spirit of selfless service, sacrifice and dedication. Despite the difficulties they encountered, they persevered in fulfilling God’s command and will, placing the salvation of souls above their personal comfort and interests.

The Eucharistic celebration was an occasion of thanksgiving for the lives and missionary contributions of the departed confreres. Their legacy of faith, simplicity, pastoral commitment and love for the people continues to inspire the Salesians of the Garo Hills Region to remain faithful to their vocation and the mission entrusted to them by Don Bosco.
