Rev. Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal SDB, Provincial of the Salesian Province of Mary Help of Christians, Guwahati, participated in the 53rd Meeting of the South Asia Provincial Conference of Salesian Communities (SPCSA) held in New Delhi from 6 to 10 September 2026. The five-day gathering brought together Salesian Provincials and leaders from across South Asia for fraternity, reflection, dialogue and shared discernment on the life and mission of the Congregation.
Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal’s participation in the meeting provided an important opportunity for the Guwahati Province to be represented in the regional forum of Salesian leadership. As Provincial, he joined the other Provincials and members of the SPCSA Council in reflecting on the priorities, challenges and emerging needs of the Salesian mission in South Asia.
A significant highlight of the meeting was the presence of Rev. Fr. Fabio Attard SDB, Rector Major of the Salesians of Don Bosco, who attended the gathering and interacted with the Salesian leadership of the region. His presence enriched the meeting and strengthened the bond of communion between the Provinces of South Asia and the General Council.
The meeting opened with the Holy Eucharist, during which the Rector Major reflected on the Gospel account of Jesus healing the man with the withered hand (Lk 6:6–11). Addressing the former General Councillors and Provincials as well as the SPCSA Council, Fr. Fabio Attard invited the Salesian leaders to examine whether their vocation and mission continue to remain open to healing, compassion and service. The Rector Major encouraged the leaders to look critically at whether their mission might at times become restricted by suspicion, routine or institutional concerns, rather than remaining centred on the needs of people and the Gospel call to compassionate service. His reflection offered a timely challenge to Salesian leadership to remain open, missionary and attentive to the concrete realities of the young and those entrusted to their care.
