A total of 170 children from Mary Help of Christians Church, Satgaon Parish, received their First Holy Communion on July 26, 2026, during a solemn Eucharistic celebration in the parish church. The occasion marked a significant milestone in the spiritual journey of the young communicants and was a joyful and memorable day for their families, who gathered to witness their children receive the Eucharistic Lord for the first time.

In his homily, Fr. Albert Thyrniang, SDB, Parish Priest, reflected on the liturgical readings of the day, particularly the prayer of the young King Solomon, who sought wisdom from God rather than wealth or power or long life or victory of his enemies. He encouraged the faithful to pray continually for the gift of wisdom, emphasizing that true wisdom enables people to discern God’s will and make right decisions in life.

Addressing the parents, Fr. Albert reminded them of their sacred responsibility to nurture their children through both secular and religious education. He urged them to provide every opportunity for their children to acquire knowledge, deepen their faith, and develop the skills necessary to become responsible and faith-filled members of society the Church. Referring to the Gospel’s message on the Kingdom of Heaven as the greatest treasure, he observed that children are among God’s most precious gifts to families. Therefore, he encouraged parents to make generous sacrifices for their children’s holistic growth and spiritual well-being.

The celebration of First Holy Communion was preceded by the Sacrament of Reconciliation on the previous day. In preparation for these twin sacraments, the children underwent a week-long catechetical programme conducted by the religious sisters, head catechists, and Sunday school teachers. The formation focused on deepening their understanding of the Eucharist and the Sacrament of Reconciliation while fostering a spirit of prayer and reverence.
