The Feast Day of St John Bosco was joyfully and meaningfully celebrated at Don Bosco College of Learning (DBCL), Tura, on 31 January 2026, bringing together the Salesian community, religious, diocesan clergy, Salesian Family members, past pupils, and well-wishers.
The celebration commenced with a solemn Holy Mass, presided over by Fr Jogesh B Sangma, Rector of DBCL, and concelebrated by Fr Andreas Panna and Fr Cornelius Myrthong, along with other priests of the community. The liturgy was made more prayerful and vibrant by the active participation of the hostellers and brothers, especially through their lively and meaningful singing, which enriched the Eucharistic celebration.
After the Mass, a solemn breakfast was shared by the community. This was followed by a ‘Salesian Game’ (Work) session, which continued until lunch at 12:30 pm, as part of the preparation for the Strenna Presentation 2026 for the Salesian Family of the Garo Hills Region, and the fellowship supper for neighbouring religious communities, diocesan clergy, Salesian Cooperators, past pupils of Don Bosco, and other well-wishers.
The supper items were generously contributed by the Salesian communities of Tura, reflecting the spirit of fraternity and collaboration. The reception began at 4:00 pm, with guests being served delicious tea-time refreshments such as momos, pitha, cakes, and other items.
Following the reception, the Strenna Presentation 2026, titled “Do Whatever He Tells You”, was presented in a clear and engaging manner through slides by Fr Januarius S. Sangma. The session was anchored by Fr Jogesh B Sangma, Regional Councillor and Rector of the DBCL community. The presentation concluded with a meaningful interactive session, during which participants shared reflections and clarified their doubts, making the session enriching and participatory.
After the hour-long Strenna presentation, a short formal programme was held before dinner. The programme began at 6:25 pm with the arrival of the Chief Guest, His Lordship Bishop Andrew R. Marak. Fr Jogesh B Sangma warmly welcomed the nearly 280 people gathered for the celebration. This welcome was beautifully complemented by a melodious welcome song rendered by the DBCL hostellers.
A floral tribute to St John Bosco followed, after which His Lordship Bishop Andrew R. Marak addressed the gathering. In his message, he highlighted the significant contributions of the Salesians to the Diocese, especially in the field of education, and emphasized the need to imbibe and live the true spirit of Don Bosco in today’s context.
On this joyous occasion, Fr Punit Kumar Lakra and Fr Bartholomew Marak, Jubilarians of their First Religious Profession, were felicitated, along with the newly ordained priest, Fr Peter Canisius A. Sangma. The short programme concluded with a vibrant and energetic Don Bosco song performed by the DBCL boys.
Thereafter, His Lordship blessed the food, and a warm soup was served to all before the sumptuous fellowship dinner. The Feast Day celebration of St John Bosco was truly meaningful and fostered a strong sense of family bonding among the diocesan clergy, religious, and the Salesian Family of the Tura Region.
