In a concerted effort to educate young minds about the dangers of substance abuse, Don Bosco School, Rongjeng, hosted an Awareness Programme on “Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” on Wednesday, 25th June 2025. The event was organized by the District Administration in collaboration with the Meghalaya Police, marking the observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Rev. Fr. Pojit Marak SDB, Principal of the school, warmly welcomed the gathering and expressed gratitude to the District Administration and the Meghalaya Police for their proactive initiative in creating awareness among the students. He emphasized the importance of such programmes in shaping a drug-free future for the youth of the region.

The event witnessed the presence of key police personnel and medical professionals, who engaged the students with informative and thought-provoking sessions. The dignitaries included:

  • Shri Walsrang G Momin, Officer-in-Charge of Rongjeng Police Station
  • Shri Subhir A Sangma, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Crime Branch), Williamnagar
  • Dr. Tochri Sangma, Medical Officer
  • Shri Selwin Sangma, Inspector of Police, Williamnagar

Each speaker highlighted various facets of drug abuse—from its legal consequences to its devastating impact on health and family life. Students were urged to stay vigilant, make informed choices, and become ambassadors of a drug-free society.

The awareness programme served as a strong reminder of the collaborative role that educational institutions, law enforcement, and the healthcare system must play in curbing the menace of drug abuse among youth.
