Don Bosco Parish, Mendal successfully organized its Annual Parish Youth Convention 2026 from 10 to 12 July 2026 at the Don Bosco School Campus, Mendal, bringing together 120 young participants from different villages of the parish. The three-day convention was marked by prayer, formation, fellowship, cultural activities, and spiritual renewal, encouraging the youth to deepen their faith and become committed disciples of Christ.
The convention commenced on Friday, 10 July, with the registration of participants followed by the inaugural programme. The gathering was officially inaugurated after the welcome session and was followed by the celebration of the Holy Rosary and the Eucharist presided over by Rev. Fr. Tomey Anikuzhikattil SDB, Parish Priest of Don Bosco Parish, Mendal. The evening concluded with self-introduction, group formation, community gatherings, and fellowship activities that helped participants build friendships and a sense of belonging.
The second day, Saturday, 11 July, began with morning prayers and the Holy Eucharist celebrated by Rev. Fr. Cherak Sangma SDB of Don Bosco Skill Institute, Jorapara. Throughout the day, the youth participated in a series of enriching formation sessions. The first session, “God is Love,” invited participants to experience God’s unconditional love. This was followed by an animation led by the Jesus Youth Team and a second session on the Holy Eucharist, emphasizing the importance of the Eucharist as the source and summit of Christian life.
The third formation session, led by Mr Balsin Ch. Marak of the Redeemer Youth Service Team, focused on Christian discipleship and inspired the young people to live out their faith courageously. The programme also included testimonies, action songs, outdoor games, group discussions, cultural performances, skit enactments, Eucharistic Adoration, and a lively cultural night, providing a balanced experience of learning, prayer, recreation, and community living.
On Sunday, 12 July, the final day of the convention began with prayers and an inspiring fourth session presented by Mr Ranggam G. Sangma of Jesus Youth, Tura, on the role of Catholic youth in today’s world. Participants engaged in meaningful group discussions before gathering for the concluding Eucharistic celebration.
The solemn Concluding Holy Mass was celebrated byRev. Fr. Januarius Sangma SDB, Rector and Principal of Don Bosco Centre for Learning, Tura, who encouraged the young people to remain rooted in Christ, actively participate in the life of the Church, and become witnesses of the Gospel in their families and communities.
The convention concluded with a valedictory function, during which participants expressed gratitude to the organizers, animators, volunteers, and benefactors for making the event a memorable and spiritually enriching experience.
