Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Sirajuli, celebrated India’s 80th Independence Day with patriotic fervour, enthusiasm and gratitude for the nation’s freedom and unity. The celebration brought together students, aspirants, staff, Fathers, Brothers and members of the local community.
The programme began at 7:30 a.m. with the arrival of the Chief Guest, Fr Kuriala Chittattukalam SDB, who was accompanied by Fr Ethelbert Minj SDB, Rector, along with other Fathers, Brothers and teachers. They were warmly welcomed by the Don Bosco Aspirants Band and Colour Party, creating a ceremonial atmosphere for the occasion.
Fr Kuriala hoisted the National Flag in the presence of the gathering, followed by expressions of patriotic respect and the National Anthem. The flag-hoisting ceremony recalled the sacrifices of the freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the independence of the nation.
The ceremony was followed by an impressive march-past presented by the students and aspirants. Their discipline, coordination and confidence added dignity and grandeur to the celebration.
The gathering then proceeded to the school assembly area, where a series of sporting and cultural activities were organised. A major attraction was the football tournament, which saw teams from nearby schools and institutions participate with enthusiasm. The matches promoted healthy competition, teamwork and sportsmanship, while the participation of the aspirants added further energy to the events.
The sporting activities were followed by a colourful cultural programme in which the participants showcased their talents and creativity. The performances reflected the richness and diversity of Indian culture while fostering friendship, unity and fraternity among the participants.
