In a historic and proud moment for the scouting movement in Northeast India, the Don Bosco District Association, Guwahati, officially inaugurated the first Sea-Scout Wing in the entire Northeast region at Don Bosco School, Panbazar, on Sunday, 15 February 2026.
This landmark initiative marks the first time that any district in Northeast India has been granted the privilege of starting a Sea-Scout Wing, placing the Don Bosco District Association, Guwahati, at the forefront of expanding the horizons of scouting in the region. The occasion was celebrated with solemnity, enthusiasm, and deep pride among scouts, leaders, and distinguished guests.
The programme proceeded with the Scout Prayer, followed by a welcome address delivered by Vice Principal Fr. Bromio Marak, SDB.
The dignitaries were felicitated, and the sacred lamp was lit as a symbol of enlightenment and new beginnings. In his address, Rev. Fr. Bivan R. Mukhim, SDB, Vice Provincial and Guest of Honour, highlighted the significance of the Sea-Scout Wing, emphasizing that this initiative would open new avenues of discipline, leadership, maritime skills, and service among young people in the Northeast. He described the inauguration as a “milestone in the history of scouting in the region.” He further stated that Don Bosco wanted his boys to become good citizens, and scouting helps form responsible citizens through service and character building.
A defining moment of the ceremony was the Sea Scouts and Guides Oath-Taking Ceremony, where the young scouts pledged themselves to the ideals of scouting with renewed commitment. The presentation of the Sea-Scout flag further symbolized their official induction into this pioneering wing. The Sea-Scout Troop Flag was ceremoniously handed over to the Troop Leader by the Chief Guest, marking the formal establishment of the wing.
Blessings were imparted by Mrs. Arnima Devi, LT (G) & HQ Commissioner, invoking divine guidance for the success of the new venture. She said that it was a proud moment for the Don Bosco District Association to begin this new chapter and reminded the scouts of their commitment to carry forward the Sea-Scout movement from this day onward.
Rev. Fr. (Dr.) Solomon Dennis, SDB, Hon’ble District Chief Commissioner of Don Bosco District, in his address, expressed gratitude for the rare honour bestowed upon the district. He noted that being chosen to initiate the first Sea-Scout Wing in Northeast India is both a privilege and a responsibility, and he called upon scouts and leaders to uphold the highest standards of commitment and excellence.
Chief Guest Mr. Bolin Deori, APS, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) lauded the visionary leadership of the Don Bosco District Association and encouraged the scouts to embrace the spirit of adventure, discipline, and service to the nation. He congratulated those responsible for launching this initiative and for obtaining all the necessary permissions to make it a reality.
