Don Bosco College Higher Secondary Section (DBCHSS), Tura, commemorated No-Tobacco Day on Wednesday, 10 June 2026, with a programme aimed at creating awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco consumption and substance abuse among young people.
The institution joined hands with other educational institutions and organizations in promoting awareness on tobacco-related health issues and encouraging students to adopt a healthy and responsible lifestyle. The programme highlighted the dangers associated with smoking, chewing tobacco, and the use of other addictive substances, emphasizing the need for collective action in building a tobacco-free society.
The awareness programme was flagged off by Rev. Fr. Jogesh B. Sangma, SDB, Principal of Don Bosco College, in the presence of staff members and students of the Higher Secondary Section. Addressing the gathering, Fr. Sangma encouraged the students to make informed choices and become ambassadors of healthy living in their families and communities.
As part of the observance, the students solemnly took a pledge to abstain from smoking and the consumption of tobacco products. They also resolved to spread awareness among their peers about the ill effects of tobacco and drug abuse.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from the students, who demonstrated their commitment to promoting a healthy and drug-free environment. The observance concluded with the recitation of the “Our Father”, followed by a group photo session to mark the occasion.
