Don Bosco Institute (DBI), Kharghuli, observed World Environment Day 2026 with enthusiasm and a renewed commitment towards environmental conservation and sustainable living on 05 June 2026. The day was marked by a series of awareness programmes and community-oriented activities aimed at fostering ecological responsibility among students and staff.

The celebration commenced with an impactful skit presented by the PTT students, who creatively highlighted the urgent need to protect the environment and adopt eco-friendly practices in daily life. Through their performance, the students emphasized the consequences of environmental degradation and the importance of individual and collective action in safeguarding the planet.

Before the commencement of the cleanliness drive and tree plantation programme, Rev. Fr. John Rabha, Associate Director of Don Bosco Institute, addressed the students and staff, reminding them of their responsibility towards the environment. In his message, he urged everyone to become active custodians of nature and work towards sustainable development by protecting Mother Earth.

“Nature has generously provided humanity with everything necessary for life—clean air, water, food, and countless resources. It is now our responsibility to protect and preserve these gifts for future generations,” Fr. Rabha said. He stressed that environmental conservation should not be limited to a single day of celebration but must become a way of life. He encouraged the students to adopt environmentally responsible habits, reduce waste, plant more trees, and become ambassadors of ecological awareness in their families and communities.

Following the address, a tree plantation ceremony was conducted by Fr. John Rabha along with members of the staff. The planting of saplings symbolized the institute’s collective commitment to building a greener and more sustainable future.

As part of the World Environment Day observance, students and staff participated in a cleanliness drive in the surrounding localities. The initiative encouraged active community participation in maintaining a clean and healthy environment while promoting awareness about sanitation and environmental hygiene.

The programme concluded with Essay Writing and Poster Making Competitions, which provided students with a platform to creatively express their ideas and concerns regarding environmental protection, climate action, and sustainable development. The enthusiastic participation of the students reflected a growing awareness of environmental issues and a desire to contribute positively towards preserving the planet.
