A moment of great joy and spiritual significance marked the blessing and inauguration of St. Mark’s Chapel at Guragalam, under Shallang Parish, on Sunday, 12 April 2026. The newly constructed chapel, dedicated to St. Mark the Evangelist, now stands as a beacon of faith and unity for the local Catholic community.
The solemn ceremony was presided over by the visiting dignitary, who had the privilege of blessing and inaugurating the chapel. The Holy Eucharist, celebrated in the Garo language by Rev. Fr. Jogesh Sangma SDB, Principal Don Bosco College Higher Secondary Section, Tura was concelebrated by seven priests, in the presence of religious sisters and a large gathering of the faithful from across Shallang Parish. The liturgical celebration was prayerful and vibrant, invoking God’s abundant blessings upon all present and upon the newly blessed house of worship. Rev Fr Sebastian Kuricheal SDB, Provincial blessed and inaugurated the newly constructed chapel.
In a spirit of gratitude, the faithful expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the generous sponsors, the Cunningham and McElroy family, whose invaluable financial support made the construction of the chapel possible. Their contribution was acknowledged with deep admiration, as the chapel is expected to serve as a lasting centre of prayer, unity, and spiritual nourishment for generations to come.
The parish community also extended sincere thanks to Madam Elizabeth Paulina and the Salesian Mission, New Rochelle, NY, for their continued support and for facilitating the realization of this meaningful project, providing a worthy place of worship for the faithful.
