Don Bosco Institute (DBI), Guwahati, has reached a historic milestone with the publication of its first patent by the Government of India’s Patent Office. This landmark achievement marks a defining moment not only for the Institute but also for the Province, highlighting its growing contribution to innovation, research, and technology-driven education.

The patent, titled “Wearable Personal Safety Device and Method for Predictive Risk Assessment and Multi-Network Emergency Communication,” is an AI-powered wearable safety device designed to enhance personal security through intelligent threat prediction, real-time location sharing, emergency SOS alerts, and multi-network communication. The innovation integrates artificial intelligence with modern communication technologies to provide proactive protection, especially for women and vulnerable individuals.

The patent application was filed on 1 July 2026 and was officially published by the Patent Office of India. The project was developed by a team comprising Bhaskar Tiwari, Alakesh Choudhury, Bishwajit Daimary, Harsha Bardhan Choudhury, Mayank Anand, Archita Sarma, and Paul Hasda.

This achievement is particularly remarkable because it has come just three years after the establishment of the Artificial Intelligence Centre at Don Bosco Institute. In such a short span, the AI Centre has fostered a culture of innovation, research, and entrepreneurship among students, culminating in the Institute’s first patented invention. The milestone demonstrates the vision of DBI in preparing young innovators who can apply technology to solve real-life social challenges.
