In a moment of profound recognition and celebration, Rev. Fr. Lukose Cheruvalel SDB, the visionary founder of Snehalaya, was conferred with a Lifetime Achievement Award during the Don Bosco YaR Conference 2025 at the Don Bosco Institute today on October 8, 2025. The award was presented by Rev. Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal SDB, Provincial amidst a gathering of confreres, well-wishers, and children whose lives have been touched by his work.
The ceremony was made even more significant as it coincided with the Silver Jubilee celebrations of Snehalaya.
In his tribute, some confreres lauded Fr. Lukose as the “visionary founder and guiding light” of Snehalaya. His deep compassion, tireless dedication, and unwavering faith have transformed the lives of countless children in need of care and protection. He has offered them not just shelter, but a true home filled with love, dignity, and hope.
The Lifetime Achievement Award was a “fitting tribute” to Fr. Lukose’s years of selfless service and his enduring commitment to the Gospel values of compassion and justice.
The award celebrates Fr. Lukose’s extraordinary contribution to the cause of the Young at Risk (YaR). For 25 years, Snehalaya has stood as a beacon of hope in Guwahati, providing a safe haven, education, and holistic development for vulnerable children, restoring their rights and empowering them to build a future full of promise.
The accolade served as a high point of the two-day national conference, which focused on “Creating an Enabling Ecosystem for Young at Risk,” and perfectly embodied the event’s core message: that lasting change is driven by unwavering, lifelong dedication to the most marginalized.
