The celebration brought together Salesian priests, brothers and staff members to pray for the eternal repose of the departed confreres who had dedicated their lives to the service of the Church, the Congregation and the young people of Northeast India.

During the homily, Fr. Bivan Rodrigues Mukhim, SDB, Vice Provincial, reflected on the readings from the Book of Wisdom (3:1–9), the Letter to the Romans (5:5–11) and the Gospel of Matthew (25:31–46). He highlighted the Christian hope of eternal life and reminded the congregation that those who have placed their trust in God are always in His loving hands. Their earthly lives may have come to an end, but their faith, love and good works continue to bear fruit.

Reflecting particularly on the lives of the deceased Salesian missionaries, Fr. Bivan recalled the sacrifices and dedication of the pioneers who left their families and homelands to proclaim the Gospel and serve the people of Northeast India. Many worked in remote and difficult mission stations, often with limited resources and challenging living conditions. Through their commitment, they established schools, hostels, churches and other institutions, while patiently accompanying young people, especially the poor and the disadvantaged.

He emphasized that the greatness of these confreres was not measured by the positions they held or the recognition they received, but by their selfless service, love for the young and fidelity to their Salesian vocation. Much of their work was quiet and unrecognised, yet their lives became seeds sown in faith, whose fruits continue to benefit the Province and the communities they served.

Drawing inspiration from the Gospel of Matthew, which speaks of the final judgement, Fr. Bivan reminded the faithful that whatever is done for the least of our brothers and sisters is done for Christ Himself. He pointed out that the departed Salesians had lived this Gospel through their daily acts of compassion, generosity and service, particularly in reaching out to those in need.

Concluding his reflection, he encouraged the present generation of Salesians to cherish the legacy of their predecessors, remain faithful to their missionary commitment and continue serving the young with the same generosity and dedication. Their lives, he said, stand as a lasting reminder that a vocation becomes fruitful when it is lived in love, sacrifice and complete trust in God.

The Eucharistic celebration was an occasion of thanksgiving for the gift of these dedicated confreres, whose missionary zeal and contributions helped shape the Salesian presence in Northeast India. The Province continues to remember them with gratitude, entrusting their souls to the loving mercy of God and drawing inspiration from their lives of faithful service.

The Province remembered the deceased confreres with a solemn Holy Eucharist on Thursday, 05 November 2026, at the Christian Cemetery, Uzanbazar, Guwahati.
