The Province commemorated its deceased confreres on All Souls\u2019 Day on 02 November 2026 with a Holy Eucharist at the Catholic Cemetery, Uzanbazar. The occasion was marked by prayerful remembrance and gratitude for the Salesians who had laboured tirelessly in the service of the young and the Church, leaving behind a rich legacy of faith, dedication and Salesian commitment.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Holy Mass was celebrated by Most Rev. Albert Hembrom, Coadjutor Bishop of Guwahati. Rev. Fr Sebastian Kuricheal SDB, Provincial, along with a number of Salesians from the Guwahati region, joined the Eucharistic celebration to pray for the departed Salesians and all the faithful departed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his homily, Bishop Albert Hembrom reflected on the Christian understanding of death and the hope of eternal life. Drawing inspiration from the Book of Wisdom, he reminded the faithful that, although death may appear to the world as an end, those who belong to God are at peace in His hands. He emphasised that death does not destroy life but transforms it, as those who die in Christ remain under God’s loving care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bishop highlighted the Catholic belief in the Communion of Saints and explained the importance of praying for the souls of the departed. Referring to the Church’s teaching on purgatory, he described it as a process of final purification and an expression of God’s mercy. He encouraged the faithful to offer Holy Masses, prayers, indulgences, almsgiving and personal sacrifices for the departed, reminding them that prayer for the dead is a profound expression of Christian love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reflecting on the Gospel account of the raising of Lazarus, Bishop Hembrom drew attention to Jesus’ words, “I am the resurrection and the life.” He reminded the congregation that resurrection is not merely an event but a person, Jesus Christ, in whom every believer finds the promise of eternal life. He invited everyone to deepen their faith in Christ and allow the hope of the resurrection to transform their experience of grief and loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The celebration was an occasion for the Province to remember with gratitude the departed confreres who had dedicated their lives to the mission of Don Bosco in the Northeast. Their sacrifices, commitment and contributions continue to inspire the present generation of Salesians to remain faithful to their vocation and mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
