A total of 240 Catholic education leaders from across Northeast India gathered at the Mama Margaret Auditorium of Don Bosco School, Panbazar, Guwahati, for the one-day North East Catholic Education Leaders\u2019 Conference 2026. Organised by the North Eastern Education Commission (NEEC) in collaboration with the Assam Catholic Educational Trust (ACET), the conference was held under the theme, \u201cPreserving the Legacy, Embracing Innovation: Leading Catholic Education into the Future.\u201d<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The conference brought together Principals, Directors, Managers and Correspondents of various Catholic educational institutions from across the region to reflect on the changing educational landscape and the challenges and opportunities facing Catholic education in Northeast India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The distinguished dignitaries and resource persons included Most Rev. John Moolachira, Archbishop of Guwahati; Mar Thomas Tharayil, Metropolitan Archbishop of the Archeparchy of Changanassery; Rev. Fr Sebastian Mathew, SDB, Provincial Superior of the Salesian Province of Guwahati; Prof. Kandarpa Das, Vice Chancellor of Girijananda Chowdhury University; Dr Joseph Emmanuel, Chief Executive and Secretary of CISCE; RC Jain, Chairman of the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB); and Rev. Fr (Dr.) Paul Pudussery, CSC, Secretary of the North East Education Commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rev. Fr Sebastian Kuricheal, SDB, Provincial of the Salesian Province of Guwahati, welcomed the gathering and wished all the participants a fruitful and enriching conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The deliberations focused on key issues affecting education in Northeast India, particularly the challenges confronting Catholic educational institutions in the context of the National Education Policy (NEP) and the evolving policies and expectations of different governments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Rev. Fr (Dr.) Alex Mathew, SDB, Rector and Principal of Don Bosco School, Panbazar, the conference provided an important platform to discuss the issues facing education in the region and, more specifically, the challenges Catholic institutions encounter in responding to the NEP and the policies of various governments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The conference served as an opportunity for Catholic education leaders to share experiences, exchange perspectives and explore ways of strengthening their institutions while remaining faithful to their educational mission and values. It also underscored the need to preserve the rich legacy of Catholic education while embracing innovation to respond effectively to the emerging needs of students and society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
