Peter Machado, Archbishop of Bangalore, who called on participants to become courageous, trustworthy and faith-filled leaders committed to transforming lives and institutions.

The Academy brought together priests, religious and committed leaders from different dioceses and congregations across India for an intensive programme of leadership formation, personal transformation and spiritual renewal. Fr Rajib Lakra SDB from Sirajuli is attending from the province. Conducted in two phases, the programme began at Don Bosco Institute, Guwahati, in June–July 2026, with around 40 participants, and continued in Bengaluru from 17 to 27 October.

The Bengaluru phase included formation sessions at Holy Cross Saint André Home, Kristu Jayanti University and St John’s Medical College, along with an exposure visit to CHRIST University, Kengeri. Participants explored strategic leadership, emotional intelligence, institutional governance, communication, teamwork, artificial intelligence, creativity and change management. Group activities, personal reflection, meditation, prayer and institutional visits helped them integrate leadership principles into their personal lives and mission.

Addressing the graduating LEADers, Archbishop Machado highlighted five key dimensions of Christian leadership: facing failure with courage, becoming prophets of change, building trust and accountability, motivating others with hope, and unleashing creativity through faithfulness. He reminded participants that leadership is not merely about managing institutions but about inspiring people, responding to emerging needs and creating meaningful change. He also emphasised that mobilisation involves not only fundraising but friend-raising—building relationships and bringing people together for a common mission.

The Archbishop further proposed four practical directions for continuing the leadership journey: Look Out, Look Back, Look Around and Look Within. He encouraged participants to remain attentive to others, learn from successes and failures, recognise opportunities for collaboration, and cultivate a daily life of prayer and self-reflection. He particularly recommended spending at least 15 minutes each day in silence with the Lord.

The graduation ceremony also marked an important leadership transition, with Fr Binny Manuel appointed Executive Director of LEAD Academy. Founder-Director Fr V. M. Thomas, SDB, expressed gratitude to the host institutions, resource persons, collaborators and participants for their contribution to the programme.

With more than 100 LEADers formed through its programmes, the Academy continues its mission of preparing visionary, competent and compassionate leaders for the Church and society. The conclusion of the 2026 programme marked not simply the completion of a course but a renewed commitment to building trust, inspiring hope and transforming communities through authentic leadership.

News Courtesy: Fr V.M.
