The Province celebrated with joy the priestly ordination of Deacon Petrus Nanwar, SDB<\/strong>, a missionary from the Province who has been serving the Salesian mission in Venezuela for the past several years<\/strong>. The ordination ceremony was held on Sunday, 4 October 2026, at St Teresa of the Child Jesus Church, Golaghat<\/strong>, with Most Rev. Albert Hembrom, D.D., Bishop of Dibrugarh and Coadjutor Archbishop of Guwahati<\/strong>, conferring the sacrament of Holy Orders through the imposition of hands and the Prayer of Ordination.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Rev. Fr Sebastian Kuricheal, SDB, Provincial, presented Deacon Petrus to the Bishop for priestly ordination. The ceremony was attended by Salesians, priests, religious, family members, parishioners and well-wishers who gathered to give thanks to God for the gift of a new priest and missionary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fr Petrus had already embraced the missionary call by leaving his home Province of Guwahati and dedicating himself to the Salesian mission in Venezuela. For the past several years, he has been working among the people entrusted to the Salesian mission there. His priestly ordination therefore comes not as the beginning of his missionary journey, but as a new and important stage in his continued service to the Church and the young people of Venezuela.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ordination was celebrated in a spirit of thanksgiving for his missionary vocation and for the generous missionary commitment of the Province of Guwahati. His journey reflects the universal missionary character of the Salesian Congregation, in which confreres are sent beyond the boundaries of their home Provinces to serve young people and communities in different parts of the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The theme chosen for the ordination invitation, taken from St Paul, expressed the essence of his vocation:<\/strong> \u201cI have been crucified with Christ and I live, but not I, but Christ lives in me\u201d (Gal 2:20). These words invited Fr Petrus to see his priesthood as a complete gift of himself to Christ and to the people he is called to serve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The newly ordained priest celebrated his First Holy Eucharist on 5 October 2026 at St Joseph Church Village, Balijan No. 2, Golaghat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Salesian Province of Guwahati congratulated Fr Petrus Nanwar, SDB, and expressed its gratitude to God for his priestly vocation and missionary commitment. As he continues his ministry in Venezuela, the Province entrusted him to the intercession of Mary Help of Christians and St John Bosco, praying that his priestly ministry may bring hope, faith and joy to the young people and communities he serves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
