The Formation and Vocational Guidance Commission of the Province, held its meeting on 12 September 2026 at the Commission Board Room, Don Bosco Provincial House, Panbazar, Guwahati. The meeting brought together the members of the Formation and Vocational Guidance Commission to review the Province\u2019s formation journey and to strengthen its approach to vocational promotion and accompaniment.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The meeting began with the hymn to the Holy Spirit, followed by the opening prayer led by Fr Benjamin Daimari SDB and words of welcome by Fr Ethelbert Minj SDB. The report of the previous meeting was read by Fr Philemon Puma SDB, followed by the presentation of the report submitted to the SPCSA by Fr Ethelbert Minj SDB. The Commission then reviewed the report of the Vocation Camps 2025\u20132026, presented by Fr John Mathias Marak SDB, and discussed the plans for the Vocation Camps 2026\u20132027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on the occasion to the members of the commission, Rev. Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal SDB, Provincial, emphasised that formation and vocation promotion must focus on quality rather than numbers. He stressed the importance of carefully discerning candidates\u2019 background, motivation, aptitude and suitability, cautioning against accepting candidates simply to increase numbers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He highlighted the need for systematic and continuous accompaniment of candidates, beginning with vocation promotion and continuing throughout their formation, studies and practical training. Salesian communities were encouraged to take an active interest in the growth and development of those entrusted to their care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Provincial also called for early identification and timely intervention when unhealthy motivations or attitudes are noticed among candidates, as these can negatively influence others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Concluding, Fr. Sebastian described formation as a long-term investment in the future of the Province and called for the transmission of the Salesian spirit through patient accompaniment, discernment and personal example. He summed up the priorities as quality over quantity, accompaniment over mere recruitment, and discernment over numbers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Commission also focused on the dissemination of the RATIO, with planning led by Fr Bivan R. Mukhim SDB, and discussed vocation accompaniment under the guidance of Fr Mackley Gomes SDB. Other areas on the agenda included the Formation Plan 2026, collaboration with the Salesian Family, and strengthening collaboration between Formation and Vocational Guidance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to promote a more integrated approach to vocation ministry and formation, placing quality of vocation, personal accompaniment, discernment and fidelity to the Salesian charism at the centre of the Province\u2019s efforts. The concluding prayer was led by Bro Firstjoy Sutong SDB.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
