The celebration brought together the school management, staff, students and distinguished guests to commemorate the historic occasion and reflect on the values of freedom, unity, responsibility and nation-building.

The programme began with the arrival of the Chief Guest, Mr. Imlang Laydama Lumphui, who was warmly welcomed by the school community. He was ceremonially escorted by the Colour Party Guides of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Amkachi, adding dignity and solemnity to the occasion.

The National Flag was then hoisted, followed by the singing of the National Anthem. The students and staff also took the National Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to the ideals of the nation and their responsibilities as citizens of India.

A major highlight of the celebration was the March Past by the different Houses of the school. The students marched with discipline, confidence and enthusiasm, proudly saluting the Chief Guest as they passed the dais. The well-coordinated March Past reflected the dedication of the students and the hard work of their teachers while highlighting the values of discipline, unity and patriotism.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Mr. Lumphui delivered an inspiring and thought-provoking speech centred on three important aspects of student life: Education, Time and Social Media.

Speaking on education, he reminded the students that it is not merely about securing marks or passing examinations but about developing character, knowledge, discipline, skills and responsible citizenship. He encouraged them to make good use of the opportunities available to them and to recognise their role in shaping the future of the nation.

On the importance of time, Mr. Lumphui emphasised that time is one of the most valuable resources in life and, once lost, cannot be recovered. He encouraged the students to cultivate punctuality, discipline, effective study habits and proper time management, making the best use of their school years to prepare for a meaningful future.

He also spoke about the responsible use of social media, highlighting both its benefits and potential dangers. The students were encouraged to use digital platforms for learning, communication and other positive purposes while avoiding excessive use, distractions, misinformation and harmful influences. He reminded them that technology should remain a tool for personal growth rather than becoming a force that controls their time and lives.

The cultural programme that followed added colour and vibrancy to the celebration. The Green House presented a patriotic song that filled the atmosphere with national pride. The Red House followed with an energetic modern dance, showcasing the creativity and talent of the students. The Blue House presented a patriotic dance expressing love and devotion to the motherland, while the Yellow House presented a vibrant cultural dance highlighting India’s rich cultural diversity and traditions.

The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Fr. Joachim Puma, Principal, who expressed sincere gratitude to the Chief Guest, school management, teachers, students, Guides and all those who contributed to making the celebration successful and memorable.

The Independence Day celebration was more than a commemoration of India’s freedom; it provided the students with an opportunity to reflect on their responsibilities as young citizens. The messages on education, the wise use of time and responsible engagement with social media gave the celebration a meaningful and contemporary dimension.

News Courtesy: Cleric Dominic Dipka Marak SDB

Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Amkachi, celebrated the 80th Independence Day of India with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm on 15 August 2026.
