The First Basic Sea Scouts Masters Training Course (North East Region)<\/strong> was formally inaugurated on 14 July 2026<\/strong> at Don Bosco School, Panbazar, Guwahati<\/strong>, marking a significant milestone in the promotion of Sea Scouting in the North East. Organised by the Bharat Scouts and Guides, Don Bosco District Association, Assam<\/strong>, the week-long programme will be held from 14 to 20 July 2026<\/strong>, bringing together Scout Masters and leaders dedicated to strengthening the Sea Scout movement across the region.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Rev. Fr. Bivan Rodriques Mukhim SDB, Vice Provincial, who delivered the welcome address. Also present were Rev. Fr. Solomon Denis SDB, Don Bosco District Chief Commissioner; Rev. Fr. Nicodim Aind SDB, Provincial Councillor and Don Bosco District Commissioner; Rev. Fr. Jayaprakash Anthonimuttu SDB, Economer; Sir A. R. Lazar, Don Bosco District Scout Trainer; along with Scout Masters, Guide Captains, and participants from various Don Bosco institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Welcoming the participants, Fr. Bivan Mukhim described the training as a historic opportunity to prepare committed Scout leaders who would inspire future generations. Reflecting on the Scout motto, “Be Prepared,” he said it is not merely a slogan but a way of life, calling every Scout to be ready in mind, body, and spirit to serve others whenever needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Drawing inspiration from the recent floods in Guwahati, Fr. Bivan Mukhim praised the selfless efforts of volunteers who distributed food, drinking water, and other essential supplies to those affected. He remarked that the true Scout spirit is expressed by asking not, “Who will help?”<\/em> but rather, “How can I help?”<\/em> He encouraged the participants to practise kindness, discipline, sincerity, honesty, and integrity in their daily lives, reminding them that character is formed through consistent commitment and faithful fulfilment of responsibilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Highlighting the distinctive vocation of Sea Scouts, he urged the trainees to appreciate the beauty and power of water while developing teamwork, courage, responsibility, and preparedness. He concluded by reminding them that their greatest strength comes from God and encouraged them to remain faithful to the Scout Promise, allowing prayer and faith to guide every act of service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on behalf of the Don Bosco District Association, Rev. Fr. Solomon Denis SDB, welcomed the initiative as a landmark beginning for Sea Scouting in the North East. He encouraged the participants to make the best use of the intensive training and become competent leaders capable of establishing and strengthening Sea Scout units in their respective institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Rev. Fr. Nicodim Aind SDB, who expressed gratitude to the Vice Provincial, organisers, trainers, and participants for making the inauguration a memorable occasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The course offers comprehensive training in Scout Law and Promise, navigation, signalling, first aid, water safety and rescue, seamanship, rope work, boat handling, sailing, weather studies, camps and expeditions, troop management, uniforms, badges, and an introduction to the Indian Navy and Merchant Navy. Guided by the theme “Learn, Lead, Serve,” the programme aims to equip participants with the skills, leadership, and values necessary to strengthen the Sea Scout movement throughout the North East.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
