Rev Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal, SDB, Provincial at the blessing and inauguration of the new village church at Sorokpara village.
On Sunday, December 7, 2025, Rev. Fr. Sebastian Kuricheal, SDB, Provincial, blessed and inaugurated the new village church at Sorokpara, dedicated to St. Teresa of Avila. The celebration was attended by around 600 faithful, including villagers and invited guests, at the church compound located about two kilometres from the Satgaon parish centre.
The Holy Eucharist was presided over by Fr. C.A. John, who initiated the construction of the church, while the homily was delivered by Fr. Pojit Marak, a priest belonging to the parish. The ceremony marked the completion of a significant spiritual and communal project for the village community.
In his address, Fr. Provincial expressed deep gratitude to the Fitzgerald Family and Fr. Gerald Souza for generously sponsoring the church. He also acknowledged the vital support of Don Bosco Mission USA in securing the necessary funds. He thanked both former and present parish priests for their hard work and commitment, which ensured the timely completion of the church. He expressed hope that the new church would become a true house of prayer where the faithful could regularly encounter the love of God through the intercession of St. Teresa of Avila.
Fr. Albert Thyrning, the Parish Priest, noted that the name of the church was chosen by the donors. He highlighted the cooperation, labour, and contributions of the local community, without which the construction which began on April 16 and finished in September would not have been possible. He added that due to certain unforeseen circumstances, the blessing could only take place on this day.
After the Holy Mass, the local faithful joyfully welcomed the guests, offered felicitations, presented a short cultural programme, and shared a community meal, marking the celebration as a memorable day for the people of Sorokpara.
