On 16 November 2025, theParish Council and parishioners of St. Joseph’s Co-Cathedral, Panbazar, gathered in great joy and gratitude to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of the Priestly Ordination of Rev. Fr. Alex Mathew SDB. The significant milestone marked 25 years of his dedicated service to God, the Church, and the people entrusted to his pastoral care.
The celebration began at 9:00 a.m. with a solemn Holy Mass presided over by Rev. Fr. Alex Mathew himself, accompanied by 26 priests from the Salesian congregation and neighboring communities. The liturgy was prayerful and filled with thanksgiving, highlighting the grace-filled journey of a priest who has faithfully lived his vocation in the spirit of Don Bosco. In his homily, Fr. Alex reflected on God’s unending fidelity and expressed heartfelt gratitude to all who formed, guided, and supported him throughout his priestly ministry. He fondly remembers Rev Fr Battista Busolin SDB and Rev Bro Eligius Khain SDB who has touched his Salesian life. He also shared that his priestly ministry is a mixture of many experiences that has shaped him to be a priest of God today.
Following the Holy Mass, a felicitation ceremony was held in honour of Fr. Alex Mathew. Parish leaders, representatives of various communities of Guwahati, and youth group expressed their appreciation for his compassionate leadership, deep spirituality, and commitment to the pastoral life of the community through various felicitation programmes. Several speakers acknowledged his inspiring presence, his ability to connect with people of all ages, and his tireless dedication in fostering faith and unity within the parish.
The celebration was jointly coordinated under the leadership of Fr. Vincent Xalxo SDB, Parish Priest, and Fr. Bromio Ch Marak SDB, Assistant Parish Priest, who thanked everyone for their wholehearted participation and cooperation in making the jubilee memorable.
