The Don Bosco Institute, Kharghuli, witnessed a memorable literary and cultural evening on 10 November 2025 with the release of “River Traveller”, a captivating new book authored by Sanjoy Hazarika, renowned writer, journalist, and filmmaker. The event brought together eminent personalities from the world of literature, cinema, and academia, marking yet another milestone in DBI’s vibrant intellectual and cultural engagements.
The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mr. Janu Baruah, acclaimed film director and producer, whose presence added a touch of cinematic brilliance to the evening. In his address, Mr. Baruah lauded Sanjoy Hazarika’s contribution to literature and documentation of the Northeast, describing “River Traveller” as a reflection of the deep connection between people and nature, especially the lifeline of the region — its rivers.
The Guest of Honour, Professor Arupjyoti Saikia, an eminent historian and environmental scholar, shared his reflections on the book’s theme, emphasizing how Hazarika’s work captures not just the flow of the river but the flow of life, history, and human emotions along its banks.
The event was graced by a soulful musical performance by Mayukh Hazarika, a celebrated singer and composer who has made his mark in Bollywood and the Assamese music industry. His melodious renditions set the tone for an evening of art and reflection, celebrating the confluence of literature, music, and film.
Fr. Cletus Sebastian SDB, Executive Director of DBI, extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries and guests, highlighting DBI’s continued commitment to promoting culture and creativity among youth and society. Also present was Fr. V. M. Thomas SDB, Founder Director of DBI, who congratulated Mr. Sanjoy Hazarika for his outstanding literary contribution. In his remarks, Fr. Thomas noted that “River Traveller” not only explores the physical journey along the river but also invites readers to reflect on life’s deeper meanings, resilience, hope, and coexistence.
