NSS TRIBAL YOUTH EXCHANGE PROGRAM INAUGURATED AT DON BOSCO INSTITUTE, GUWAHATI
Hon’ble Governor of Assam, Shri Jagdish Mukhi, inaugurated the 7-day Tribal Youth Exchange Program at Don Bosco Institute, Guwahati. The National Service Scheme (NSS) in collaboration with Don Bosco Institute is organizing a 7 days Tribal Youth Exchange Program from 2nd – 8th March 2020 at Don Bosco Institute, Guwahati. As many as 500 students from various States and Union Territories have enrolled for the program. An inaugural ceremony was held on Monday 2nd March 2020 at 3 pm at the Amphitheatre Don Bosco Institute. Hon’ble Governor of Assam, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi was the Chief Guest. Dr. Joram Begi, State Chief Information Director, Arunachal Pradesh, Fr. Joseph L. Teron, Vice Provincial of GuwahatiSDB Province, Mr. Dipak Kumar, Regional Director of NSS and Dr(Fr) P.D. John, Executive Director of DBI graced the occasion with their presence. The program began with the National Anthem. It was followed by the Prayer song and a cultural dance fusion by the students of Don Bosco Institute of Management.
Dr (Fr) P.D. John welcomed and felicitated the guests. It was followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. Mr. Dipak Kumar, Regional Director, NSS gave a brief overview of NSS program and spoke of the motive behind this meet. Fr. Joseph L. Teron in his brief address called upon students to serve others, respect each other and appreciate each other’s culture. Dr. Joram Begi spoke about “Development with Culture”.
Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, Hon’ble Governor expressed his joy to be a part of the program. He spoke about the various initiatives taken up by the central govt to develop the tribal community. He told the students to take this opportunity to know each other. Learn about each other’s culture and when they go home take something new with them. He advised the youngsters to make one new friend every day from another State and interact with participants of different states learn from their culture. He reminded the students that we are Indians first and everything else comes second. He praised Don Bosco Institute for hosting this mega event and and thanked NSS Regional Directorate for joining hands with Don Bosco. He was confident that the program will be success since it is done by Don Bosco.
Fr. Pojit Marak, Associate Director of DBI proposed the vote of thanks. The program ended with singing of the National anthem. The program was anchored by Kaushik Barman and Hazel Pyntngen Dkhar, NSS volunteers of Don Bosco Institute of Management.
NSS is a voluntary organization dedicated to the growth and development of young people of India, especially the tribal population of India. The NSS motto is ‘NOT ME BUT YOU”. The 7-day event will consist of various sessions, cultural evenings, local sight-seeing, adventure activities and a host of activities connected to Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat. The event will conclude on 8th March 2020.
