Vision & Mission Standing on memory lane, paved by the amazing feat (and feet!) of the Salesian pioneers of the Assam Mission, in itself a missionary saga rarely paralleled in the history of the Catholic Church, we the Salesians of the Guwahati Province are inflamed by the indomitable spirit of pioneers like Mgr. Mathias, Mgr. Marengo, Fr. Piasecki, and others who have gone before us. Besides, the fact that Shillong was for many years (1923 – 1937) the seat of the first Indian Province of the Salesians not only adds lustre to the subsequent growth of this region but also lays a historical responsibility on our shoulders for the future. It is with such a frame of mind that I propose the following vision to my confreres: - To evangelize, educate and empower the young and the marginalized sections of the society, by enabling them to find their identity and place in society, ensuring their integral development. - To continue pioneering evangelization of those peoples and groups not yet reached by the Gospel, in a spirit of collaboration with the local Church. - To foster a culture of mutual acceptance and co-operation, by involving ourselves actively in reconciling differences among peoples and groups. - To be pastorally inventive and creative leaders in youth work and advocates for the cause of youth at both micro and macro levels, and active collaborators and partners in the mission of the Church. - To help the young take responsibility for their own development, for the growth of the Church and for the building up of a society, which is just, egalitarian and Christian, and where all live in harmony.
