History
When Rev. Fr. Joseph Thelekkatt took over as the provincial, he sent a letter to each of the bishops who come within the area of the province promising to do his best to participate in the mission of the dioceses. Bishop Denzil D’Souza of Silchar responded by requesting the Salesians to help in the mission work in the state of Mizoram. The area identified was Saiha, inhabited by the Hmars, and Lawngtlai, inhabited by the Lais.
The Mara Autonomous Council purchased a plot of land measuring about 400 Sq. meters and donated it to the diocese. The people and authorities requested the Bishop and the Salesians to come and start an English Medium school there due to the lack of good schools in the area.
Fr. Anthony Valluran was sent to Saiha in October 1991 to study the needs of the area. He reached Saiha on 13th October 1991 together with Rev. Fr. V.A. Paul, under whose jurisdiction, the area was situated. Fr. Anthony submitted a report to the Bishop and the Provincial and returned back to Saiha. On 24th November 1991, Holy Mass was offered for the first time in one of the existing sheds. On 16th December 1991, with generous help from the authorities, including the D.C, the YMA, the MTP etc, the construction work of the permanent school building was started. On 10th February 1992, the school was opened unofficially with an enrolment of 35 students. On 19th February 1992, Msgr. Denzil D’Souza, Bishop of Silchar, blessed the school and Rev. Fr. Joseph Thelekkatt officially inaugurated it. Along with the school the Quasi parish of Saiha was created.
