History
Situated at a distance of 26 kms from Agartala, the capital town of Tripura, the parish falls in the diocese of Agartala and has a Catholic population of about 300 in 60 families. St. Xavier’s school was established in the year 1986 by Mr. Atul Debbarma.
In the year 1991, he handed over the school to the Salesian province of Guwahati. Since then, the institution has been looked after by the Salesians of the Guwahati province. The centre consists of a quasi parish, the school and a hostel.
The parish of Pathaliaghat was opened in 1992 in order to cater to the tribal groups of the region. A prominent apostolate is the high school in English medium which is a great help to the tribals to complete their matric, since in the local medium schools, they will have to learn Bengali, quite a difficult feat for them. A big boarding for boys and another for girls enables us to give a deeper formation to the Tripuri youngsters.
