Hyderabad, Aug 27 A half-day Philosophical symposium on Ecology and the role of different religions, especially Christianity, in the preservation of the Nature, was organized at St John`s Regional Seminary, Kondadaba on August 27, 2010. The six papers presented by the students themselves, formed the backbone of the symposium triggering an avalanche of questions and suggestions for immediate action. Don Bosco Alumni Initiates New Life
Dimapur, Aug 15 Don Bosco Alumni, Itanagar Unit, gathered in Itanagar Central Jail to plant trees and to provide hope of a better life to come. To mark the independence day of the country Don Bosco Alumni chose Tree Plantation as a means to reach out to the prisoners and provide them hope. Speaking on the occasion Shri Techi Kaso, MLA of Itanagar, assured his support to the association to foster development and better life for the people. He also sought the prayers and support of everyone present so that the prisoners may renounce their past life and begin a better life once they are out of their confinement. Four Salesian films at international Catholic Festival
Guwahati, May 27 The International Catholic Film Festival beginning Thursday in Warsaw will have six entries from India, four of the directed and produced by Salesian priests. The 25th festival, a three-day event, will screen 172 films and 40 radio programs from 20 countries, including China, says Zygmunt Gutowsk, festival vice-president and one of the founding members of the festival.  Read More »

Salesians Honoured At 56th National Film Awards
Guwahati, Mar 26 NEW DELHI (SAR NEWS) -- Two Catholic priests made history when they received the national film awards from the President of India, Pratibha Devisingh Patil, becoming probably the first to do so in the 56 years of the award`s existence. They were Salesian priests Joseph Kizhakechennadu (producer) and Joseph Pulinthanath (director) of Tripura and the event was the 56th National Film Awards (2008) held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, March 19, 2010. The award was for ``Yarwng`` (Roots), their second feature film in Tripura`s Kokborok language. It was also Tripura`s first-ever national film award.  Read More »

TRIPURA`S `YARWNG` GETS NATIONAL FILM AWARD
Guwahati, Jan 27 Acclaimed Kokborok Feature film from Tripura `Yarwng` (Roots) has won National Award in the category of `Best Feature Film in languages other than those specified in the Schedule VIII of the Constitution`. The 56th National Film Awards was announced by Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ambika Soni, on 23rd January in New Delhi. THE SALESIANS CELEBRATE THE GOLDEN JUBILEE OF THE PROVINCE OF GUWAHATI
Guwahati, Nov 09 At 06.00 pm on November 07, 2009, a large gathering of the Salesian Family was held at Sacred Heart Theological College, Mawlai, Shillong which has produced more than 700 priests for the Salesian congregation. The Presence of the Rector Major, Fr. Pascual Chavez SDB, added joy and enthusiasm to the gathering. The expression of that joy was seen in the fireworks display and the singing and dancing that was performed on that day. The presence of all the four Salesian Bishops of the Region added colour to the event. Rt. Rev. Thomas Menamparambil SDB, The Archbishop of Guwahati, Rt. Rev. Dominic Jala SDB, the Archbishop of Shillong, Rt. Rev. Joseph Aind, the Bishop of Dibrugarh, Rt. Rev. Robert Kerketta, SDB, Bishop Emiritus of Tezpur, Rt. Rev. George P.K. SDB of Miao increased the splendour of the occasion. The Salesian provincials Fr. Joseph Almeida, SDB, of Guwahati, Fr. Anchukandam Thomas SDB of Bangalore, Fr.
